How To Order your rod
Step 1: Get in touch
If you’re not familiar with Tom Morgan Rodsmiths, take a minute to check out our website and read a bit about our history as rod makers. When you’re ready, we’ll schedule a phone call to discuss the type of water you’ll be fishing, flies you like to cast and work together to select the length and line weight for your rod. If you’ve had your eye on a rod for a while and know what you want, you can skip right to placing a deposit with us to get things started.
Step 2: Customize your Rod
Once we’ve settled on length, weight and number of pieces, we’ll work together to select reel seat hardware, reel seat wood, handle shape and inscription for your rod. We can email pictures of various species of wood that we use for reel seats as well as handle shapes to help in the decision making.
Step 3: Waiting Time
We build rods in the order that we receive deposits. Once we make decisions for personalizing your rod, all that’s left to do is wait for your turn.
Step 4: Your Rod Build
When the time has come to build your rod, we will start with a raw blank and ferrule it to your length and number of pieces. Your handle will be shaped on the blank to make it uniquely yours. After getting a handle, we will wrap your rod in Tom’s signature burgundy wraps with a red agate stripper and snake brand guides. Our calligrapher will write on the rod and finally we will coat wraps and reel seat it. No TMR rod goes out the door without a final inspection to make sure it’s perfect.
